Note: Ability to work at the Canton, SD site until the Parker, SD is active.  Ongoing ability to travel between company locations in SD, as required. Will eventually be working at the Parker, SD site.

The Pharm Site Manager - Parker is responsible for the daily operation of SAB BIO's Parker, South Dakota site. This position  oversees animal husbandry, veterinary services, plasmapheresis operations and site staff.  The Site Manager ensures safe, efficient operations, regulatory compliance, animal welfare, and the consistent production of high-quality plasma to support company objectives. 

Duties and Responsibilities (Responsibilities include but are not limited to):
  • Perform the daily operations and scheduling activities in the areas of animal husbandry, study vaccinations, and plasmapheresis events. Assist in the screening of new employees for animal management, plasmapheresis and vet services areas
  • Supervision of animal management, plasmapheresis, and vet services technicians. Assist in the development of  SOP’s, programs and records to support Plasma Production objectives
  • Schedule and assist with routine animal management tasks (weights, vaccinations, etc.).
  • Schedule flow and housing of animals throughout the facility
  • Assist with site planning and growth with consideration given to facility design, function, procedures, and operations
  • Coordinate weekly veterinarian visits and communicate concerns or changes to appropriate staff
  • Manage vaccinations/plasmapheresis as determined by IACUC protocols and/or programs
  • Supervision of animal care and veterinary services staff as staffing increases at the Parker site.
  • Perform and assist with study vaccinations
  • Ensure maintenance and calibration of plasmapheresis machines and all related equipment is performed
  • Maintain inventory of all necessary supplies to execute protocols and programs
  • Ensure compliance with USDA-APHIS, USDA-AC (AWA) and AAALAC International is maintained
  • Assist with the conduct of approved IACUC research protocols in areas to improve animal health and further the goals of the company
  • Assist with TC animal production including surgical procedures and research aimed at increasing the efficiency of the transgenic system
  • Convey issues and priorities between departments
  •  Assist in other areas as needed
Education, Experience and Certifications: 
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience.  Veterinary Technician degree or other post-secondary education preferred.
  • Large animal handling experience preferred.
  • Effective written/verbal communications skills and demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups.  
  • Individual must have a valid driver’s license and a “satisfactory” driving record.

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and sit.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and be on feet walking or standing for long periods of time. Job requires ability to work in adverse/outdoor conditions, good physical mobility, and above average strength/conditioning. Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury.

Working Environment:
Duties will be performed in a normal farm working environment and laboratory like settings from time to time. The position will be exposed to loud noises from farm-related equipment.
