The Biospecimen Acquisition Specialist plays an important role in supporting SAB’s research and development efforts by ensuring  timely and compliant acquisition of high-quality human Biospecimen samples. This position involves coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders, meticulously adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory compliance maintaining precise documentation of all activities within the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS).

Note: This is an onsite role with 5 days a week onsite.

Duties and Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Acquire and track Biospecimen samples, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations/statutes and SAB processes and policies. This includes transportation, data entry and related logistics of acquiring, transporting (shipping/receiving) and all activities related to the acquisition and movement of the Biospecimen materials
  • Adhere to regulations, statues, standards, processes and policies regarding Biospecimen acquisition and transport and remain abreast of same (i.e. FDA and the American Association of Biospecimen Banks (AATB) standards)
  • Provide a weekly demand plan/forecast for Biospecimen requirements
  • Ensure required shipping supplies and collection materials are available at donor sites at all times
  • Ensure quality and integrity of Biospecimen as it moves through the process from acquisition, packaging, transport (shipping/receiving)
  • Process accompanying blood samples and deliver to clinical lab
  • Receive collection notification calls from donor sites and communicate pending deliveries to lab
  • Coordinate receipt of specimen packages and deliver to lab
  • Proactively and effectively communicate specimen demand and expectations with donor sites, status of Biospecimen availability against forecast, timing of Biospecimen shipments/deliveries and other related communications, as required, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain donor sites’ purchase orders and verify invoices
  • Provide weekly updates to internal stakeholders via meetings and/or in written form
  • Track and record all relevant information, Biospecimen characteristics, and procurement processes using specialized software applications (such as eQMS)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences or related field of study
  • 1-2 years of work experience.  Pharmaceutical/Biotech/Life Sciences industry experience is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge or certification of IATA and/or regulations for transport of human Biospecimen preferred.
  • Knowledge of International regulatory requirements for human blood and Biospecimen is desirable, but not required.
  • Comfortable working with systems and applications and demonstrated computer literacy is required.  Familiarity working within electronic applications such as eQMS is a plus but not required.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.  Writing skills include routine and technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to managers and employees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and use of Internet and other relevant applications. 

Physical Demands:   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.)

Working Environment and Travel:
Working environment includes office, plant/warehouse and lab environments.
Must have valid driver’s license for pick-up/delivery of Biospecimens and related supplies.
